
The Bulgarian Red Cross granted Professor Valentin Djonov, University of Bern, the Gold Medal
On December 16, 2024, the Bulgarian Red Cross granted Professor Valentin Djonov, University of Bern, the Gold Medal. The highest honor of the Bulgarian Red Cross was awarded for his outstanding contribution to Bulgarian healthcare system and his volunteer work many years of supporting hospitals, elderly homes and universities in the Republic of Bulgaria.

Remarkable achievements at the Flash Radiotherapy and Particle Therapy (FRPT) conference 2024
We are proud to share that two members of the Djonov’s team were recognized for their contributions at the Flash Radiotherapy and Particle Therapy (FRPT) 2024 conference in Rome the past December.
Dr. Verdiana Trappetti was honoured with the Best Abstract Award and Dr. Cheuk Ting Wu received the Best Poster Presentation Award.
Congratulations to both for their well-deserved success and their commitment to advancing the field of radiation therapy and precision medicine.

Katzarov Award 2024, University of Geneva
End of 2024, in a special ceremony the president of the Katzarovi Fund Committee Mr. Jean-Claude Nicole awarded Professor Djonov with the prestigious “Katzarov Award 2024” for his contribution to medical education and research, his initiatives promoting academic mobility between Bulgaria and Switzerland, as well as his philanthropic commitment.

Dr. Lutz und Dr. Celia Zwillenberg-Prize
At the Dies Academicus 2024, Benedetta Coppe was awarded the prestigious Dr. Lutz und Dr. Celia Zwillenberg-Prize prize for her PhD Thesis entitled "The intergenerational investigation of paternal
cardiac injury".
MIRACLE Project Wins Major Research Grant
The Institute of Anatomy is delighted to announce that Dr. Cristian Fernández has secured together with Radio-oncology Inselspital and Radio-oncology CHUV as co-applicants a prestigious CHF 1.8 million Multidisciplinary Project research grant from the SNSF for the groundbreaking project "MIRACLE: MIcrobeam Radiotherapy – paradigm change in Clinical cancer treatment". We congratulate the team and wish them great success in this endeavor!

SASRO GRANT 2023 to our colleague Verdiana Trappetti
Our colleague Verdiana Trappetti was awarded with the SASRO Grant 2023. Every year the Scientific Association of Swiss Radiation Oncology (SASRO) is awarding one or more reaserch grants to research projects of young SASRO members (under 35 years of age) working in Switzerland. For 2023 there was one grant of 5000.- CHF available and it was awarded to Verdiana Trappetti.

Inauguration of the High End Cryo-Electron Microscopy Facility
We celebrated the new cryo-TEM Titan Krios G4 and the new cryo-FIBSEM Aquilos 2 from Thermofisher Sci in presence of Prof. Werner Kühlbrandt (MPI Biophyiscs, Frankfurt), the Rector, the Vice-Rector Research, the Dean of the Medical Faculty and several distinguished external guests.

Prof. Valentin Djonov received the title of Dr. honoris causa from the University of Kragujevac
Prof. Valentin Djonov received the title of Dr. honoris causa on 30 May. 2023 from the University of Kragujevac, Serbia.
He received the honorary doctorate for his exceptional contribution to medical science, for the newly developed tumour therapy stakes, and for his support and collaboration with several research groups at the University of Kragujevac.

Teachers of the Year x2
Gudrun Herrmann and Stefan Tschanz have been elected by the students of Medicine as Teachers of the Year for academic year two and one, respectively, as "Masters of Disaster" during the Corona period. The Institute is pleased with this double award for the Anatomy and congratulates.

SSAHE PhD Thesis and Master in Science Thesis awards 2021
The Swiss Society of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology awarded the PhD Thesis prize to Alexander Ernst for his project "New insights into epicardium formation through in vivo imaging in the zebrafish."
The Master Thesis prize went to Andrej Vianin for his work on a zebrafish xenotransplantation model for the evaluation of metastatic behavior of tumor cells. Congratulations!
